4 days

$177 United Airlines

SkyScanner

Is the number one app that I use to purchase my VERY inexpensive flights.

I have also used Kiwi, and direct from airlines. for more information on how I book my flights signs  up for my email list to receive info on when my ultimate guide to domestic and international travel ebook drops.

Transport  To Downtown

You can catch Uber or Lyft, the cities public transportation is more that addicuit in getting you too city center, if you are short on time I would look head to make sure everything is up and running as it should.

You can purchase day passes and multi-day passes that transfer onto the above ground transport. MuniMobile Day pass as good for unlimited busses, trains, and historic street cars for $5.

Check out more information here

Daily Spending:

$100

I think you can spend much less than this per day if you wanted to shop at the store for some of your meals.

Hostel per Night:

$90

Bike Tour:

The best way to see any city is by foot, you see all the things you absolutely miss riding or driving around in a car. You most def miss out if you are on a subway/metro or crammed onto a bus.

Air bnb has an amazing list of activities for whatever area you want to search for from cooking classes to in-house massage and yoga.

We took an amazing bike tour through our hostel. I highly recommend hosteling for this reason and a few others that are listed here.

Vintage Trolly

You would be doing yourself a disservice if you missed the old school cable cars rumbling up and down the hilly streets of San Fran. Refer to the section on transportation to and hit the link to find yourself on pricing for the cable cars.

As of the date publishing this article, a single cable car ride is $8.

Fisherman’s Wharf

See the Sea lions over at fisherman’s wharf, and after that leave. It is super touristy here and if you like that, than there are shops and restaurants where you could absolutely spend some time

Coit Tower

Coit Tower is 200+ feet tall AND on top of a hill in San Fran, it has beautiful views I wouldn’t advise missing out on. Take your camera, on a clear day you can see ..well…everything.

Lombard street, and GGB can be seen in my blurry pictures just below.

Haight-Ash

Janis Joplin, The Beatles, Zeppelin, Jim Morrison  were all here with the hippie teens of America and beyond back in the 1960s, and you should catch a bus and be here too.

Haight-Ashbury!

There are touristy shops where you can buy hoodies and Tshirts to take home. There are also vintage clothing spots and other unique shops lining the streets now.

Little eateries tucked away and out on the main road that you can duck into and sample a taste before moving onto the next.

You can easily spend a day in the Haight.

A little tip for killing two birds with one stone? There is a huge park at the end of Haight where Stanyan St crosses called Golden Gate Park, this is easily a half or full day vibe, all depending on what you want to do or not do. There is a botanical garden, segway tours, bike rentals, paddles boats, a kids area with rides, the place is massive and beautiful.

Some of the amazing things I have seen over the years!

Me At The Haight!

 Car Rental

You can easily join one of the tourist bus cattle drive if you want to head out of the city for a day.

Or..

You could do the smart thing and spend $60 or less renting a car for a day drive so you can do what you want when you want. My rental was $55 for 12 hours

I highly recommend this amazing company and I suggest booking in advance if possible, they are popular!

Muir Woods

I love this place, it’s almost a spiritual experience and only 25 minutes and Golden Gate Bridge ride away from the hussle and bussle of the city.

Muir Woods is home to the redwood giants of the pacific northwest and they are fabulous!

You should go either in the morning or as later in the day.  You can read up on planning your to/around the forest experience here.

Beaches are just to the west, hikes are all around and this destination is easily a full day trip.

Drive the Coast road

If you just want to hit the road, or you are looking for something to include on your Muir Wooding times, head up the coast.

There is a little hillside highway that takes you by some beaches and an amazing cliffside overlooks up to a little town-That gets insanely busy at lunch-the Marin Headlands are very picturesque, even on a clear day. *Wink*Wink*

Sausalito

The cutest little town with a beautiful view of San Fran. I have biked of GGB and taken the ferry past Alcatraz to Sausalito and either way is amazing.. and chilly!

Ignore the crowds and enjoy the day.

Most of the restaurants here are a little pricey but there are plenty of small places you can carry away and find a place to sit and look at the magnificent view

If you are taking the ferry, be mindful of the time. Lines get crazy long very fast. Sausalito is a hop skip and a jump from Muir Woods.just a little FYI.

The above can be fit into a four day itinerary if needed, planning ahead for Muir Woods is essential

Honorable Mentions:

The Mission

Chinatown
