The best way to see any city is by foot, you see all the things you absolutely miss riding or driving around in a car. You most def miss out if you are on a subway/metro or crammed onto a bus.
Air bnb has an amazing list of activities for whatever area you want to search for from cooking classes to in-house massage and yoga.
We took an amazing bike tour through our hostel. I highly recommend hosteling for this reason and a few others that are listed here.
Vintage Trolly
You would be doing yourself a disservice if you missed the old school cable cars rumbling up and down the hilly streets of San Fran. Refer to the section on transportation to and hit the link to find yourself on pricing for the cable cars.
As of the date publishing this article, a single cable car ride is $8.
Fisherman’s Wharf
See the Sea lions over at fisherman’s wharf, and after that leave. It is super touristy here and if you like that, than there are shops and restaurants where you could absolutely spend some time
Coit Tower
Coit Tower is 200+ feet tall AND on top of a hill in San Fran, it has beautiful views I wouldn’t advise missing out on. Take your camera, on a clear day you can see ..well…everything.
Lombard street, and GGB can be seen in my blurry pictures just below.
